Direct Access allows individuals and businesses to instruct a barrister directly for specialist employment law advice and representation, including workplace disputes and Employment Tribunal claims. This can provide a more streamlined and cost-effective route to expert legal advice. Not all cases are suitable for the Public Access Scheme, and not all barristers are qualified to accept instructions in this way. Where a matter falls outside the scope of a barrister's role, or requires the broader services provided by solicitors, we will advise that a solicitor is instructed and work alongside them to ensure clients receive comprehensive legal support.
At Parity Chambers, we strive to provide an excellent standard of service and high-quality advice while ensuring that our fees represent good value for money. We take pride in the quality and expertise of our members, and it is important that our fees appropriately reflect the high standard of work they deliver, while giving clients confidence that they are receiving value throughout their engagement with us.
Our Senior Clerk can be contacted to provide an estimate of fees, which will be offered either on an hourly rate or fixed-fee basis (including brief and refresher fees), depending on what is most appropriate for the case. Fees are calculated by reference to the time reasonably required to provide the services at a reasonable hourly rate, taking into account all relevant circumstances.
Hourly rates may vary according to the seniority and experience of counsel, as well as the complexity and urgency of the matter. Where a fixed fee is agreed, we will not exceed the quoted amount without prior client authority.
Our fees are flexible and competitive, while reflecting the high standard of advice and service we provide. The current rate of VAT will be added to all fees, unless an exemption applies. We will always advise on the most suitable counsel for your case and seek to provide a clear, accurate, and proportionate assessment of costs.
Upon acceptance of instructions, counsel will review the case to assess the volume of papers, complexity, any need for further information, and the approach of the other side.
Timescales for completion will depend on counsel's availability, the client, relevant third parties, and, where applicable, court timetables. Clients will be kept informed of expected timescales and any material changes arising from factors outside Chambers' control.
